4 Yoga Enthusiasts Who Are At The Top of Their Fields

For some people, yoga has become a part of their healthy lifestyle. However, yoga can do more than keep your body healthy. In our previous post titled 3 Benefits Yoga Brings to Your Mental Health, we discussed the impact yoga has on one's concentration and focus. Yoga also helps reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, something everyone can benefit from in today's fast-paced world. Some of the most successful people in the world are also yoga practitioners on the side. If you need more motivation to take out your yoga mat today, let's take a look at some notable personalities — from politicians to poker superstars — who swear by yoga:

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

Justin Trudeau is no stranger to "breaking the Internet" once in a while, and his yoga habit always seems to catch the public's attention, including that of his political rivals. Recently, he has gone viral for a 2013 photo of the prime minister doing a Mayurasana pose — or the peacock pose — on a table. While the photo was tweeted by Trudeau himself back in 2013, it was given new life when a Canadian yoga teacher made a Facebook post using the picture.

Coincidentally, a picture of former Canadian prime minister — and Trudeau's father — Pierre Trudeau striking the same peacock pose has also made its rounds on the Internet. Known for his stance on matters from climate change to LGBT rights, Trudeau is well-liked around the world. It shouldn't be a shock that he practises yoga on top of his busy line of work, as his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, is a certified yoga instructor.

Poker champion Kristen Bicknell

One of the most popular card games in the world, poker is a mental game that requires strategy and critical thinking. It also requires a mastery of emotional control. It’s no surprise that Canadian poker pro Kristen Bicknell practises yoga to remain one of the best players in the game. Racking over $5.1 million in live tournament wins, Bicknell ranks second in earnings among female poker superstars. Today, Bicknell is considered one of the best players of all time. Bicknell often talks about her yoga routine and has spoken about incorporating her practice when facing the felt, sneaking in little stretches between hands. Undoubtedly, yoga can be a relaxing exercise for the amount of focus and concentration needed to compete in a professional poker game.

Twitch streamer Amber Moss

Amber "AmberGlowYoga" Moss streams dark horror games on popular streaming platform Twitch, but she also likes to stream another hobby of hers — yoga. Most importantly, Moss openly advocates for the fitness and health of her fellow streamers and gamers, leading Yoga for Gamers sessions at Twitch conventions when she's not busy streaming. For those unfamiliar with Twitch, gamers often spend hours seated at their desk, grinding out one game or another, while live-streaming to hundreds, sometimes thousands of viewers. Moss' dedication to spreading awareness on streamer health and fitness is essential, as gaming is not necessarily a physically demanding activity at first glance. However, sitting and gaming can lead to body pains when done for hours and on a daily schedule. Moss is an excellent example of balancing an active lifestyle with a passive hobby.

Music icon Paul McCartney

This star doesn't need an introduction. How much more on top of your field can you be than to be a Beatles member? Paul McCartney is a Grammy winner, a knight, and a dedicated yogi. Some of his yoga buddies include favourite celebrities Lorne Michaels and Alec Baldwin. McCartney even uploads his yoga tutorials for eye yoga. At 80 years old, McCartney recognises the need to be fit and stay healthy. He often jokes about shocking younger people at the gym whenever he strikes his favourite pose with ease — the headstand.
